Jonas and his parents have a different perspective about Jonas being selected as The Receiver of Memory. Jonas is frightened of the fact that he was selected to such a rare job, while his parents think it is a honor that he was selected as The Receiver of Memory. In chapter 8 it says, “But at the same time he was filled with fear. He did not know what his selection meant. He did not know what he was to become. Or what would become of him.” This shows that he is scared of the selection that was made and what his future will be.
