Joseph Smith claimed he was curious why the old testament prophets had many wives and asked God about it and received the revelation on plural marriage. The old testament prophets did not have many wives. Abraham had one wife, Isaac had one wife and Jacob had two wives. Abraham had one intimate relationship with Hagar, Sarah’s handmaid and produced a son Ishmael. Isaac only had one wife and no handmaids. Jacob was tricked into marrying two daughters of Laban, his mother’s brother and they each had one handmaid that produced twelve sons and one daughter.
There are no other old testament prophets that had plural wives so what is Joseph Smith trying to tell us here? From Abraham and Jacob we see they had handmaids that produced children for the prophets. Where are the children Joseph Smith produced through what wives? The Bible tells us plainly what happened. Why doesn’t Joseph Smith tell us plainly also?
