Watsons and their Symbols Each book has its own story but what most people do not see is that every book has symbols in the story that identify the characters more. This can be seen in the historical fiction novel, The Watsons Go to Birmingham, 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis like when the Wool Pooh first appeared in the book. The author uses symbolism to convey the message that facing death is scary and that there is no way out of it but it is ok to be scared.
As a student with many qualities, I believe that I should be in the NJHS. Many of the traits that I have as an individual would benefit the standards that the NJHS expects. For instance, I am dedicated, diligent, responsible, and a strong leader. One trait I show off daily is my dedication for school. My priorities are set on getting good grades and working hard on my school work.

Desire is the need for an object, a feeling or a person. One can have a desire for something that is essential for survival, such as water or food, but desire could be used to harm others or oneself. Through A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, Ishmael’s perspective of desire was altered dramatically. These desires were changed from his surroundings or events that were taking place. In the book, Ishmael was easily manipulated by his desires.
A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry is a play which contains many different obstacles that the characters face. One character, Beneatha, faces an obstacle that is out of her control. This obstacle is gender inequality. Throughout A Raisin in the Sun, gender inequality is experienced by Beneatha and reflects the struggles women faced in the 1950s. One of the issues that Beneatha faces in the play is her relationships with two men in her life, George Murchison and Joseph Asagai.
In the book “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, it’s about a little girl who is pressured by her mother to become something she doesn’t want to be. Jing- mei , the daughter, is forced to become a prodigy(child actress), by her mother, and she doesn’t want to be one. In the story, Jing- meis’ mother uses allusions such as Shirley Temple to push her into becoming a prodigy. Although at first Jing- mei is excited to become a prodigy, she later realizes its something she just doesn’t enjoy doing. Consequently, the uses of allusion in the story help Jing- mei discover to not be a prodigy and that what her mother wants for her is not always important.
Listening and caring skills according to John Savage offers specific and teachable listening skills for improving relationships among those who do ministry. The skills are taught through oral exercises and unfailingly helpful examples from actual congregational situations. Some of the skills include expression of feelings and emotions which includes the skill of direct expression of feeling, indirect expression of emotions and direct expression of feelings. Our feelings and emotions can be induced by many things from the external world. The Radicalized Mind Joesph Strorm is a loyal brute, an extremist. He is an unwavering leader to Waknuk and the Repentances. He would sacrifice anything for his religion. In the novel Wonder by R.J Palacio, a number of symbols help to show Auggie's journey as he goes through the struggles of school. The different symbols and how they represent Auggie's journey are referred to throughout the novel. Auggie's masks, his Padawan braid and the universe are all used to symbolise his journey. Along the story line, Auggie wears a range of different masks.
“The ways in which the characters in Lorraine Hansberry’s play, A raisin in the sun, are affected by racial imbalances and respond to the injustices engendered by such inequities are solely influenced by their gender.” I agree with this statement to an extent. Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
“Two Kinds,” by Amy Tan, essentially revolves around the struggle of Jing Mei and her constant conflict with her mother. Throughout her life, she is forced into living a life that is not hers, but rather her mom’s vision of a perfect child; because her mother lost everything, which included her parents and kids, so her only hope was through Jing Mei. Jing Mei’s mom watches TV shows such as the Ed Sullivan Show, which gives her inspiration that her daughter should be like the people and actors. First her mom saw how on the television a three-year-old boy can name all the capitals of the states and foreign countries and would even pronounce it correctly. Her mom would quiz Jing Mei on capitals of certain places, only to discover that
I was born and raised in Miami, Florida by Haitian Parents, with strong conservative family values. These values have shaped me into the man I am today. Growing up, my parents and sister were my best friends.
