The Journey of Odysseus
Have you ever imagined what it would be like to go on a journey to war, and not come back for twenty years? Well, that's exactly what happened to the King of Ithaka. He left one day to fight a war and did not return for twenty years. What's his name? His name is Odysseus, and I'm going to tell you about his journey and his time away from home. To begin with, the story starts with Odysseus' wife, Penelope, having their child Telemicas. Unfortunately, on the same day, Odysseus has to leave to fight in the Trojan War. Odysseus knows that he will be away from his family for ten years, but what he doesn't know is that his ten years away will turn into twenty. Now we can try to imagine what it would be like to be away from our home and family for twenty years, but the reality is we have no idea how hard it would be. We would get really lonely and bored being alone with no one there who loved us. If you ever commit to something you know may take you away from home for a while, you should make sure it's something you really want to do. In the world today there are many ways of communicating, but sometimes those options are not available. Imagine that at one point there wasn't anything people could use to communicate with their family, so when they were on long journeys they had no idea what was happening at home. People today shouldn’t take the things they have for granted. This doesn't mean they shouldn't live life the way they choose, but they should definitely consider all the facts. We all have to be smart about the things we choose to do, because one day our family may not be there to help or to greet us when we return. The choices made impact both the person making the choices and the people around
