The Benefits of the Journey to Eagle Scout In recent years Boy Scouts of America has changed their name to Scouts BSA due to them letting females join the program. This was a major change for the program, but it allowed females to benefit from the opportunities and experience of working towards eagle scouts. One of the very first requirements every scout has to complete on their journey to eagle scout is the memorizing of The Outdoor Code. “As an American, I will do my best to Be clean in my outdoor manners. Be careful with fire. Be considerate in the outdoors. Be conservation minded,” (Scouts BSA). This code is the baseline of the Leave no Trace program that all scouts must follow. It helps all scouts learn about nature and how to make the smallest impact possible. It’s very important for every scout to develop their communication skills. One of the merit badges every scout must complete on their way to eagle scout is the communication merit badge. This badge requires you to be a master of ceremonies for at least one court of honor. Talking with adults, peers, and children all have different styles of communicating. Some of the many things scouts offer are archery, ATV courses, rifle shooting, basketry, swimming, life saving, cycling, backpacking, chess, wilderness survival, etc. Many scouts have the opportunity to take up to 120 different merit badge courses and many different classes to learn new things.
