In the book, Breakthrough, by Joyce Smith, the main protagonist, Joyce Smith is a very loyal character. The book starts when John, the main character, goes to a sleepover with his friends from his basketball team. When they woke up John saw Lake St. Louis is frozen and decides to go outside and walk on it. Shortly after, he and his friends broke through the ice and fell in. Luckily they got ahold of the ice and climbed out, except John was nowhere to be found, all of them started panicking and called 911. The firefighters came and could not find John, finally they found him and quickly escorted him to the nearest hospital. They set him up on life support and told his mom to quickly come to the hospital. The text states, “‘Our God is a big God, …show more content…
Loudly, making sure the entire group could hear, I stated, ‘We are only going to speak life.’” (Smith 56). Clearly this quote shows Joyce is loyal and also very faithful to God because in times of difficulty she turns to God. She knew God would work his miracles if she trusted in him to do so. Joyce could have been angry about the situation and pouted, but instead she believes in God. Though it may be difficult to see someone you love in these tough situations, you need to believe and good things will happen. Another example of Joyce being loyal, is when John is recovering from the incident and Joyce is comforting him by telling him positive words. For instance, the text states, “‘Who knows I’m here? Do my friends know?’ … ‘Yes, John, all of your friends have been here checking on you and praying for you.’ He squeezed my hand for comfort, and we talked for a few hours about all that had happened the past ten days. It was difficult for me to answer because I didn’t want him to have nightmares, so I measured my
