A Closer Look at Judaism

In Australia Judaism is worshiped by approximately 90 000 people. The number of Jewish people living in Australia is gradually growing each year; Australia’s Jewish population is currently ranked no. 8 worldwide.

The Jewish religion is approximately 4000 years old and originated in Israel.
Based on stories found in the Hebrew Bible, the stories follow the Jewish ancestors back to one family who distinguished itself from others by worshipping a single god.
Abraham is a very important individual in Jewish history, he was the first to believe solely in one creator, god. Abraham’s son Isaac and his son Jacob are universally known in the Jewish religion as being the metaphysical ancestors of Judaism.
The 12 tribes of Israel were named after Jacob’s 12 son’s, Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Zebulun, Issachar, Dan, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Joseph and Benjamin. …show more content…

The Torah is a collection of five books from the Hebrew Bible, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The Torah has been given many names; nonetheless to the Jewish people the Torah is scared and very well cared for. It is forbidden to touch the Torah; therefore a metal pointer is used to follow when reading it.
Unlike many other ancient religions whose origins are derived from myths of creation, the Jewish scribes came together with historians to gain an accurate representation of the myths resulting in the narratives of ancient Judaism known today. These narratives tell of the first family, Abraham and his sons. The Hebrew bible is made up of 24 books that are compiled into 3 sections. These sections are commonly referred to as TaNaKh, an acronym for Torah, Neviim and Ketuvim. The books of the Neviim sections are; Joshua, Judges, Samuel (1 and 2), Kings (1 and 2), Isaiah and Jeremiah. The books of the Ketuvim are; Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Songs of songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra and
