Philosophy statement Judge Irwin grew up in the South and was very much a product of his environment. His social class played a major role in shaping his personality. Born in the mid 1860s just after the Civil War concluded he was part of the landed gentry from his beginning. We are told he has both an elegant home at The Landing and a substantial plantation near-by. His social position though not of his own creation still came with serious responsibility. This noblesse oblige that the Judge felt was a responsibility to be a model, guide and a leader of men. This took many forms.
