Jon Spoelestra’s Ice to the Eskimos was very interesting and informative. Throughout the entire book, Spoelestra reflected upon the experiences and knowledge that he gained from working in the sports industry. One interesting aspect of the book was Spoelestra’s principle that organizations should design “an offer that consumers cannot refuse” (Spoelestra, 1997, p. 199). This was particularly interesting to me because of my interest in finance. Initially, I thought that if you make an offer too good, that you could potentially be losing out on some profit, however, after reading this book, this principle makes perfect sense.
While we read a handful of chapters in Black Elk Speaks, one chapter in particular caught my attention more than the rest. Chapter 21, “The Messiah” was a rather captivating one, in not only its content, but also the unfolding of the previous two chapters that leads up to the content in that of chapter 21. The aspect of chapter 21 that are most captivating to me is the realization of everything that is taking place out west, while Black Elk isn’t present. While these chapters not only give us insight to the Wasichus’ movement west and the treatment to which they displayed towards the Black Hill people, we are also exposed to the individual struggle to which Black Elk himself is overcoming. In “Woodchucks”, Maxine Kuman describes the problem she has in her back yard with woodchucks. She goes into detail of the idea of killing them without hurting them by “gassing” them. She also had no mercy of the woodchucks when she shot at them. Kuman uses her experience with the woodchucks to explain the situation between the Nazis and the Holocaust victims.
Introduction and Conclusion Every little boy dreams of being a football star. Unfortunately, the chances of getting into the (National Football League)NFL are only about two percent. One person who beat these odds is Jerry Rice. To decrease the number of concussions a year the National Football League must issue more rules and better quality equipment. Despite the tackling and wanting to " knock out " an opponent of the other team, football players need to transition their mindsets to a different objective. Instead of wanting to hurt the opponent or lay them out, just focus on getting them down. Football players must have the mindset to keep their healthy bodies and prevent injuries so that they can continue to entertain, perform, but to mostly importantly win. Football without concussions and even injuries can make the sport more enjoyable for the parent, wives, and children of the players.

Dabo Swinney: A Transformational Leader Leadership is a very important part of having a successful organization. A strong leader brings a vision, and provides the motivation needed to unite a group bring them to achieve a common goal by aligning the organization to its vision. Good leaders are inspirational and charismatic they lead their organization through the internal and external changes that occur (Gupta, 2009). Dabo Swinney, the head coach of the Clemson Tigers football team is an exemplary example of a strong leader.
The book, “Losers Take All,” written by David Klass, takes place in modern time New Jersey. Jack Logan is a senior boy who attends a sport enthusiastic school. After a tragic incident occurs, Fremont High is left in search of a new principal to replace Gentry. In the middle of summer, Fremont decided to hire their football coach, Mr. Muhldinger, as the new principle. Things take a dramatic turn when the first rule he implements is that all seniors must join a sport.
If he never played, this would've never happened. This shows how dangerous how youth football is. In the article, kids don't give up in playing football and get concussions. For example, in Pop Warner Suspended Coaches After Concussions, All things considered says, “Every kid who was out there wanted to play and not give up.” This shows how the coaches put the mentality into the minds of kids.
Although some football enthusiasts believe that children under the age of twelve should play tackle football because it promotes friendship and teamwork, the negative impact that the sport has on the brains of adolescent males outweighs the comradery that the sport teaches. Children play the sport without thinking of the effects of the brain injuries. Through interviews with past players as well as scientific studies, researchers have found that the cognitive ability of males (average age of early fifties) is greatly affected by the age in which the young player began playing (Boston University School of Medicine). Boston University’s Dr. Robert Stern said the concern is not from concussions, it is from, “subconcussive hits: these hits that don’t necessarily result in the symptom right then, but people can get hundreds of them a year.”
