Justinian 1 was a great, important emperor who created lots of history. He ruled the Byzantine empire from 527-565 AD, and was born in 483 AE, Tauresium, Dardania. He later died November 14 565 AE, Constantinople, which was a pretty long life for a person long ago. When Justinian was born, his parents named him Petrus Sabbatius, but later on changed it to “Justinianus”. He was named after his uncle who later on died that same year. In the 500s Justinian had military training from a military commander named Justin. Because he was highly educated, Justinian had great ideas, he was very smart, and creative. He even started the rebuilding of the Hagia Sophia church, forts, and other churches. Although he did all this, he lived for his work as a legislator and codifier. Justinian 1 chose unpopular and not liked advisors, he lost power and leadership.

That was shown when he created the Justinian code, which was a series of old laws, and new laws. This set of laws was finished by April 7th 529 AE, and it was introduced by Justinian's’ official, Tribonian. It became so popular that many people decided to have those laws apply to their own countries. Soon almost every country followed the rules Justinian created. Justinian created the code by gathering all the old laws and rules. He changed them a bit to match with the opinions of Roman jurists, and then he added his own rules to the code. Even many of the rules we have now can be found back in the code Justinian had created a long time ago. Although he had tried to help with all this, his life had been risked, and most people had hated him, they didn't want him as their emperor. This might have been from Justinian’s code of rules, one of them was raising the byzantine empire’s taxes.
