Kamala and Marium are from totally different settings. One girl is from Afghanistan and the other from America, together they are both lost and confused, but at the same time they are smart and have a lot of courage. Like the book says “ … And whoever saves one person , it is as if he has saved all of mankind.” - Ms.Marvel. I have currently just finished the book Shooting Kabul by N . H . Senzai. This book was about a young family from Afghanistan and the young boy in there family named Fadi. He is the main character in this book. He drops the youngest in the family off the bus in Afghan and she is lost there throughout the book. In the end it is Fadi’s love for photography that gets her back and they live in America together. Her parents are both from Pakistan. They use all the Pakistani traditions and Kamala doesn’t want any part of that. One night Kamala was told that there was a party going on and she was invited. She had asked her parents and they said no because they don’t want her to become a trouble maker and make all these bad decisions. Kamala decides to go anyway. When she arrives to the party she sees her friend Zoe and her boyfriend. He is drunk. They try to get Kamala to drink booze but she doesn’t except and spits it out of her mouth. Then her friend Bruno spots her and tells her that she shouldn’t be there. She ignored him and that’s when a weird fog rolls in and she starts to walk away into the fog. She passes out and sees the super heroes (Ms.Marvel , Iron man , Captain America ) They tell her that they are going to fix her life. They turn her into a copy of Ms. Marvel. She turns into an exact copy of Ms.Marvel. She tries to save people and end up becoming her own superhero and becomes her own person. “But why hide? You saved Zoe, you just saved the Circle Q-- why do it all behind someone else’s face?” - Ms.Marvel. I chose this quote because it shows that you don’t need to change for other people. Maruim was born in America but when her father got offered a job in Afghanistan with the Taliban. He rejects the job but still helps them get rid of the Poppy plants. They are used to produce drugs. Marium and her family have been through a tough time living in Afghanistan. The Taliban has band several things from their country. They decided that enough is enough and that Afghanistan was getting too dangerous. When they were in Afghanistan Marium dropped her barbie doll Gulmina. She fell off the truck but her brother grabbed her hand and she slipped. Marium had been lost in Afghanistan for several months but luckily people had been tracking her by the places she went. When they found her she was in a refugee camp. The man judging an art contest that Fadi had been in took a picture of Marium with her doll Gulmina. “She’s all alone, she’s only six.” says Zafoona in the beginning of the book. Maruim was found and not all was lost , she was safe and with her family. These two people have very little things in common for example : Marium was born in America and so was Kamala. They both are very traditional in their culture. They both have siblings. They both have older brothers. The differences between both of them examples: Kamala is a teenager with one brother, while Marium is a six year old with a brother and a sister. Marium is not the main character while Kamala is.
