•The genre of the given novel is Fiction. •The title signifies how Laila, one of the protagonists, views Marium, another protagonist, in her heart, “... the bursting radiance of a thousand suns.” [366] •There are multiple themes that are portrayed in the story: hope, life, survival. However the main themes that are exceptionally prominent in the story are friendship, family, and love. •The ideal audience could primarily be women who are escaping issues of their own. Characters •The two protagonists are Marium and Laila. •Marium is a very hopeful and intelligent person. Although she faces hardships and difficult circumstances with her past and the mistakes of her family, she manages to carry on with her life. However, as the story progressed, we begin to learn that he is an egocentric, womanizing bastard that physically abuses women. Plot •The climax of the story is when Marium murders Rasheed, her husband. She in turn, does this in order to keep herself and Laila from any further beatings from Rasheed. •One conflict would be Man vs. People; Marium was born into the world as a mistake considering how her mother and father did not want her. Since this occurred, her mother and father were not married, so Marium was often look down on by her father’s wives since she was his intelligent daughter. Another would be Man vs. Himself; Marium, after various trials to having a child, she began to have this conflict of seeing herself as a woman. Opinion Section •My favorite part would have to be on Page 308-311 where Rasheed is beating Laila and then Marium steps in and murders her husband.
