"Be a better version of yourself." This quote is an exact representation of the play, " Taming of the Shew." In this romantic comedy, the main character, Katherine, changes dramatically throughout the play and ends up bettering herself in the end. At the beginning, Kate acts like a shrew but later, through love and compassion changes her characteristics and becomes, "Tamed." During the early stages of the play, Kate acts like a shrew and is noticed by others around her. As Gremio states, "Though her father be a very rich, any man is so very a fool to be married to hell,"(Shakespeare 125-126), we can infer how society sees her in the play. Gremio refers to their family's wealth is great perk but marrying Kate is not near worth the fortune. Another example of Kate portraying a negative outlook is how Hortensio describes her. Hortensio describes Kate as a devil and later states that she would be required to be gentler for him to consider. It all begins the time she fell of her horse. On a trip back to Petruchio's house, Gremio, Petruchio and Kate were all riding horse until Kate had abruptly fallen off and landed in a massive mud puddle. Being her usual self, Katherine freaked out and expected help, but did not receive any from Petruchio, nor Gremio. This is the beginning of Kate understanding her acts of ill-mannered ways. Another example of this is when they arrive at Petruchio's house. Petruchio knows that Katherine is extremely hungry and knows that she is used to getting what she wants, when she wants. But when the food comes out for them Petruchio becomes enraged, throwing the food, yelling at the servants. In hopes to show Kate how she treats others.
