In the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. An important character that helped me understand an important message in the hunger games is Katniss one important message Katniss showed me, even if you are poor and struggling with life you have to keep moving on. Another idea she showed me is sometimes you have to sacrifice for the ones you love and protect them. Lastly another idea Katniss showed me is to not give up no matter how hard it is. An idea Katniss showed me was even if you are poor and struggling with life, you have to keep going and move on. An example of this is when Katniss’s father died in the coal mining incident, Katniss mother fell apart and fell into depression, so Katniss decided to be the head of the family, as their father was the one who hunted and brought the food home. Katniss was only 11 and she made the decision to take over, as her younger sister, Primrose was too young. An example of this is when the day of the reaping, Primrose, Katniss and their mother were getting ready and this year was Primrose name had been in the reaping as when you turn a certain age. Katniss, Primrose and their mother walked over and stood with everyone in district 2, a lady from the Capitol stood on the stage ready to choose the two tributes for the Hunger Games. She pulled out the female representative name and called out “Primrose Everdeen”, Katniss and Primrose panicked and Katniss quick thinking, volunteered as tribute in Primrose place. This shows how Katniss loves Primrose and how should would never let her participate in the Hunger Games, Katniss basically threw her life to protect her little sister and it takes courage and you have to have a strong mental ability to accept that you are probably going to die in the
