“Firework” by Katy Perry is a song for people who feel life’s pressure, and let’s it get to them. This causes them to feel down, and as if they can’t do anything. In “Firework”, Katy Perry uses tools such as similes, and metaphors, to get across how people who struggle with depression tend to feel. The idea of a firework being something powerful, beautiful, and able to leave people in awe. When a person has been pushed down repeatedly by difficulties they face, they can always get back up, because we are resilient. Katy Perry uses her song to talk about how the problems people face on a daily basis add up to be so major, they begin to take a toll on people, making them feel weak, and useless, or like they can’t achieve their goals. It discusses an internal conflict, with the antagonist being lifes hardness, and depression that comes from it. The song uses similes to relate a person and how they potentially feel. They lyrics’ similes create a relatable, touching feeling in the listener.
