In the opening it shows the setting in a black and white tone, envisioning the ghettos of Oakland, California where Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the black panthers in the 1960’s to fight against police brutality which many still are fighting for till this day. where it depicts which can be described as a “dark sky paradise” were Big Sean describes it as, “people may see the low income neighborhoods as an unwelcoming place, but to the people living in them it's paradise and they make good of what they have”. In my opinion the reason Kendrick is floating instead of walking or running is because it shows the separation from him and his community due to his transition to fame, according to him, he entered into a “new war” one into the music industry, according to him one that is “based on apartheid and discrimination”. The thing about being a famous is that you’re elevated and not truly a member of the crowd that idolizes
