To begin In Kendrick Lamar “Alright” music video which was uploaded on the 30th of june, 2015 and has since generated more than 30,392,631 views, shows viewers the effects of police brutality and how it affects the community. In the opening it shows the setting in a black and white tone, envisioning the ghettos of Oakland, California where Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the black panthers in the 1960’s to fight against police brutality which many still are fighting for till this day. where it depicts which can be described as a “dark sky paradise” were Big Sean describes it as, “people may see the low income neighborhoods as an unwelcoming place, but to the people living in them it's paradise and they make good of what they have”. As the clip roles Kendrick Lamar begins to say “I remembered you was conflicted / Misusing your influence, sometimes I did the same / Abusing my power full of resentment / Resentment that turned into a deep depression / Found myself screaming’ in the hotel room / I didn’t want to self-destruct, the evils of Lucy was all around me / So I went running’ for answers.”

In my opinion the reason Kendrick is floating instead of walking or running is because it shows the separation from him and his community due to his transition to fame, according to him, he entered into a “new war” one into the music industry, according to him one that is “based on apartheid and discrimination”.
