1. I was 5 and I walked in on my parents talking about the USSR and how the threat was becoming bigger. I didn’t know what this meant at the time but soon I figured it out.
2. The term “Cold War” means fear of an invisible force. I remember reading in the news Kennedy’s address about the Cuban Missile Crisis. This address scared me as I didn’t ever think that America could ever be under attack.
3. I saw so many cartoons on the newspapers to villanize the communists. I also saw a lot of posters on how to not see certain movies or listen to certain things as it would give the USSR more power. It shaped my impression of Russia to hate them and not really think of them as decent beings.

In school and at home we did nuclear bomb drills if it ever hit. My school and family also told us who might drop this bomb and what it might do.
5. My whole family thought there would be a nuclear war when we read Kennedy’s address about Cuba. Right after the address my family decided to tell us and make us practice what to do if a bomb ever hit.
6. I remember the aspect of the Space Race when USSR decided to beat us to get to space. US although, not the first one in space, decided to beat them at their own game and be the first one on the moon. I always used the phrase “Space Race” when I was talking to my friends. The race meant new places we never seen before and a thing to show USSR that we were better.
7. I can remember the rivalry in hockey between us and Russia. I still remember the day when the US beat USSR at hockey. People cheered and went crazy as it was the first time US ever did this feat.
8. I do remember the Berlin Wall being torn down. I remember feeling a sense of togetherness and peace as the sides weren’t against each other. My feelings about the Berlin Wall being ripped down have never
