Most people can agree that there is corruption in the world in one way or another. A meme that has come around to expose corruption or events is the Kermit the Frog meme. Originally, Kermit the Frog was used for a Lipton commercial, but instead, is now used for various meme situations. Most of the time it is Kermit the Frog drinking his tea with a caption saying “but that’s none of my business”. This meme show that society knows of the wrongs in today’s world, yet no one does anything about it due to fear and some may even find tragic events humerous. One example of someone who tried to do something against corruption was Edward Snowden. Snowden believed that what the government was doing was wrong so he exposed them, and because of it, is now living in Russia due to an arrest warrant issued on him. He stated “You can't come forward against the world's most powerful intelligence agencies and be completely free from risk” (Snowden). In 2015 the Baltimore riots occurred and a Kermit the Frog meme pointing out that the welfare offices were not on fire was made. The fact that someone took time to make this meme goes to show how seriously this issue is being taken by society. Those affected by this event already have to cope with the stress that came with it, and now the hundreds memes being made by people daily as well. Recently, a gorilla name Harambe was shot and killed in the Cincinnati Zoo, and since then, a Kermit the Frog meme was made with the caption “He was just a gorilla, but that’s none of my business. Harambe was indeed a gorilla, but even so, he was still a living, breathing, animal and should be shown respect.
