Over the course of world war two there were many key battles that led the allies to their success in the war. Many battles such as Dunkirk, Midway, Leyte Gulf, Stalingrad, Doomsday, Nagasaki, and Hiroshima. All of these battles were key points of the war that would determine who would win or lose. Some of which could have wiped out the entire opponent.
The first major war that was won by the allied powers was named Dunkirk. It was one of the most disastrous cases for both sides. This was the attack six months after Japan had bombed pearl harbor. This attack was important for the Japanese because of their goal of taking over the pacific ocean. The Japanese wanted to destroy the United States because they were the biggest threat to the Japanese goals. They thought that if they would win this war that the United States would relinquish and give up on the Pacific Ocean and the Japanese would control the whole body of water. The Japanese had made a plan that fell through when an American Cryptographer was able to figure out the date and time of the attack that Japan planned. They planned to have many naval ships spread out and ready to crush the US ships. They assumed they only had the USS enterprise and the USS hornet available to them in the pacific coast. However Yorktown had been fixed and would play a big part in the battle of midway. After they found those plans they devised their own plans for a full out ambush. The Japanese did not expect this and the US sunk four of their aircraft carriers and one heavy cruiser. This was a major loss for the Japanese as they struggled to get materials for their military and men to employ and train. Much of the Stalingrad was fought in close quarters or even hand to hand combat. There were many air raids that took place killing 1.7 million people. The enemies who attacked were from the 6th german army and the 4th panzer army. Much of the city after the war had been reduced to rubble all that was left was the remains of what used to be houses and buildings. But by mid November the Nazi’s had pushed back the Soviet Union leaving them with the narrow zones along the west point. Eventually the germans 6th army set camp there, sending planes with ammunition and food supply. But then the axis forces came and over time “exhausted” their food and ammunition supply.
