In the movie Kid History: “Camping” episode 5, there are four preschool children narrating a story about a group of girls and boys going on a camping trip and doing activities. In the story the main characters are Randy, Mike, and Nate. Randy is having a moral reasoning moment of whether or not to leave the group activity. The three-year-old preschooler is narrating the angel who is supposed to tell Randy what to do that is good. Instead the angel is commenting about her wings being pretty and then we see the three-year-old girl twirling as she looks at her pretend wings. This is where we see her cognitive develop as she has not fully developed her attention span. Another example is later in the episode she is narrating the Mike character and they are asking Brett character to come with them to wander outside. She interrupts the Brett character and goes off topic about the different colours of grapes she likes. When the characters are wandering in the dark she is still narrating Mike and is randomly talking about making chicken nuggets when she is older and then is giggling as she says, “Look. I am going potty.” This is nothing to worry about, because as stated in our textbook it says, “…sustained attention improves in toddlerhood, a trend that continues during early childhood.”(Berk, & Meyers, 2016, p.327) This means that she still has years to develop her attention span.
Language Development: The preschooler boy that is about five years old in the red shirt demonstrates his language development as he stutters his words throughout the episode. As he narrates the crazy hunter guy of what he has hunted, and Nate while in the tent he is stuttering his words with pauses as he describes fireworks. He might have a speech and language disorder, or is developmentally delayed.
