In this story Woodson wanted to believe that Greenville was a loving place,but soon realized that racism was still an issue there. In the end she started to have a different perspective of the town. By observing how she changes over time, it seems evident that Woodson is trying to express to the reader that things aren’t always what they seem to be when you’re young.
