For billions of years, humans have been relying on pollinators such as bees to produce the food supply. Though losing a species that is no bigger than an inch may seem harmless, the extinction of bees can change the way humans live forever. Bees pollinate the majority of crops that humans and animals eat, but going extinct creates a negative effect throughout the globe. Once they die off, plants that rely on their pollination to survive automatically die. This causes a chain reaction. With less crops, animals that rely on crops for food have to starve, also leaving farmers jobless. Bees are essential to the human population, but due to exotic fertilizers and habitat loss, countless species and jobs are endangered.

Colony collapse disorder is when an insubstantial amount of worker bees decide to leave the hive and any immature and Queen Bees. There is little evidence that Neonicotinoids help the crops produce, but is a fertilizer that deadly to the thousands of bees who pollinate.More specifically, this fertilizer“kill bees by damaging their nervous systems, weakening their memories and impeding their ability to forage and fly”(Steve Ellis). Habitat loss, usually resulting from urbanization has destroyed bee hives all over the world. Bees who are suffering from habitat loss also suffer from nutritional stress, because it is more difficult for them to locate any food sources.As a result, “states with the largest areas of open land compared to developed land had a significantly higher honey yield on a per colony basis because of more foraging resources in the open land (Habitat Fragmentation).
