In the article “Chivalry,” it states that the chief chivalric virtues were piety, honor, valor, courtesy, chastity, and loyalty (3). In the book, King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, we meet a knight named Sir Launcelot. Sir Launcelot is thought to be one of the greatest knights in the world. However, Sir Launcelot may have been honorable, but he was not loyal and chaste.
First Knight display some of the classical aspects of chivalry, with the most prominent aspect being loyalty as is demonstrated in the repeated use of the pledge that the Knights of the Round Table say to each other during initiation ceremonies and during crucial moments of the film, "Brother to brother. Yours in life and death." Lancelot is shown as a flawed man, but an incredibly masculine and chivalrous one and those qualities allow him to be redeemed of his affair with Guinevere and he gains the recognition from Arthur as the quintessential knight moments before Arthur's death, "My truest. My first knight." This is an accurate depiction of the Arthurian lore in the sense that Lancelot's chivalrous nature was enough to earn the forgiveness of Arthur because of Arthur's extremely chivalrous nature, but the rest of the characterizations of Lancelot are more reflective of modern chivalry.
The idea of a farm boy becoming the true king was so repulsive to some nobles that they refused to acknowledge that Arthur was successful in pulling out a sword, forcing him remove the sword multiple times, until the common people demanded that Arthur has proven his worth and that he should be crowned king. During the Medieval times chivalry was one of the most important characteristics a knight could display. Chivalry was viewed as a moral obligation that involved bravery, honor, respect, and gallantry. Knights were expected to uphold this code or face social consequences for any infractions, with punishments ranging from humiliation to termination of their knighthood. “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” presents the struggles knights faced with honoring the chivalrous code at all times. Sir Gawain, while imperfect, exhibits qualities expected of knights and embodies the internal struggle between honoring the chivalrous code and giving into selfish desires.
King Arthur is one of the best kings that has ruled over Britain, throughout all of history. Arthur ruled with honor, loyalty, and chivalry, which made him a great king. Many lessons that he learned on his journeys helped him to become the person that he is. Arthur’s journey becoming king can be seen in the novel The Sword in the Stone by T.H. White, and is very similar to Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, a novel written by Mark Twain, often depicts armor as protection and a sign of nobility in King Arthur’s sixth-century Europe. The armor used for protection often times does not work during the book and many die while wearing it. Hank Morgan tries wearing armor, and decides never to wear it again because of the tremendous uncomfort and the way the armor makes him feel trapped, both mentally and physically. Despite showing tremendous protection and fortitude, armor often times traps an individual’s humanity and lacks proper defense.

In my opinions Arthur has some bad and good character traits. One trait that Arthur has is Compassionate. I know this because in the story when the football players were around the trash can with someone in it Arthur said " With only one thought in mind, really: saving whoever was in the garbage can. Or at least getting the person out. It shows that he cares about other people even if he doesn't know them.
