Standing In Your Truth
The idea that a person's actions should be determined by what is morally right, regardless of the personal consequences or difficulties that may arise. It emphasizes the importance of integrity and standing up for one's principles, even in the face of adversity.
In Shakespeare's play "King Lear," the character of Lear himself exhibits selfishness in the beginning of the play by giving preferential treatment to his daughters who flatter him, while banishing the one who speaks truthfully to him about his flaws. Something that every teenager struggles with is social status and the ability to do the right things for yourself in the present and future. We do our best to please everyone in our lives. I have come to realize that you cannot make everyone happy all at the same time. Especially when your connections at an early age are your parents, peers, teachers, and bosses. They all want something different from you simultaneously. I have taken the advice of my parents and been responsible for my own actions, listened to my teachers and strived to give my best where I can, developed a healthy work ethic from my bosses, and boosted my social skills from my peers. All of these are positive attributes but can all have a negative effect on my mental health. The buildup of pressure to do what everyone wants all the time can be a lot. Some examples of how I have done what is best for me is with my friends and family. All my friends hate my music taste. Country music and acoustic guitars are an annoyance to them, yet it is what energizes me and makes me feel free from my surroundings. Even though I have to deal with the criticism daily, I do not let it bother me and have taken my own spin on my interests. A stress reliever that I have become accustomed to is not only listening to country music but also singing it while playing the guitar. It helps me when my emotions are at a low and brings me back to life. But when it comes to my family, they love me and I know this to be true, but I cannot help but feel like I am being judged and ridiculed for my actions and efforts put in.
