The Incident
On May 20, 1998 Kip Kinkel got expelled from school for bringing a handgun on campus reported KVAL (Jennifer Winters). Kinkel was afraid of what his father, Bill Kinkel might say because kids at school were bullying him. On May 21, 1998 Kinkel killed his parents Bill and Faith Kinkel. Then the next day driving his mother’s car to Thurston High School, where he would enter the building wearing a trench coat filled with two guns, a rifle, a knife and more than 1,200 rounds of ammunition. Kinkel then opened fire in a cafeteria filled with over 200 students. Kinkel killed 4 people during this rampage and injured more than two dozen before a young student tackled Kinkel from behind. She was a Spanish teacher at the local high school. She loved her family and students. Her daughter Kristen Kinkel describes her as a people pleaser and full of life. The second victim was the suspect’s father, William Kinkel known as Bill he also was a Spanish teacher who taught part-time at the local community college. “My parents were so full of life; stated Kristen Kinkel. The Kinkel’s will always be remembered for the unwavering encouragement for their students reported (Mark Friesen). The third victim was Mikael Nickolauson he grew up on the same block as his best friend Joshua Pearson they often visited each other’s house. The fourth victim is Ben Walker another student from Thurston High School. There were several other victims, but they are still here to share their stories. The suspect is 15-year-old Kip Kinkel he was an average student who started causing trouble when he entered the seventh grade. His mother made him attend several psychiatrist visits because he always talked about acts of violence he would like to commit, he also talked about joining the army just so he could kill someone. During a Disneyland family vacation, he talked about how he just wanted to punch Mickey Mouse in the nose. According to the police report Kinkel also lunged at a police officer yelling “Shoot
