The Crazies to Say the Least “David leans on the sideline fence, sipping his coffee, watching the game. No one has yet noticed the dark figure walking out of the shadowy woods beyond the outfield. Weaving like a drunkard, he walks right onto the playing field, oblivious to the game. He is carrying a shotgun. Heads turn, mouths falling open in the bleachers and dugouts, everybody staring in collective disbelief.
“Sweet Nothing in My Ear” The writer of “Sweet Nothing”, Stephen Sachs, portrays the all too familiar conflict in a family. However the not so familiar family setting, where the mother and son are deaf, and the husband is hearing. The family is just like you would expect, with a slight communication alteration. Dan is a hearing father and husband, with hearing parents. Laura is a deaf mother and wife, who was “born” deaf.
In the film Glory directed by Edward Zwick, the Civil War is portrayed through the eyes of the Fifty-fourth Massachusetts regiment, which was composed of African American men fighting against the Confederates for freedom. The commander of this regiment, Robert Shaw, was born into an abolitionist family and accepted the role of the first all-black regiment in the Northeast, despite the potential threats of the South. The movie focuses on four black soldiers and their experiences during the war as well as their relationships with their fellow soldiers and commanders, including Shaw. Throughout the movie, Shaw’s perspective is also seen and the conflicting emotions he felt are demonstrated by the choices he is forced to make. While some may argue

“The Freshman” and “Knute Rockne: All American”, two completely different plot lines with one connection: football to masculinity. “The Freshman” is about a Harold, a boy dreaming to go to college and be the most popular kid on campus. All of his dreams were based around this character from a movie, “College Hero”, name Speedy. Harold gets into Tate College and tries to copy Speedy in every way possible. Inorder for him to becomes the most popular student, he needs to take down the football captain.
She claims that she is always leaking secret information to her enemies regarding their friendship. Denise, the American girl, seems not to recognize her friend as having an American identity. Denise accuses the Japanese girl of always starting a war that is not deserved. The American girl reprimands her Japanese friend for her actions of having a big mouth. The big mouth of the Japanese girl symbolizes how the Americans take the Japanese.
In the novel ,Lord of the Flies by William Golding the deadly sin of wrath is present amongst the antagonist, Jack as he strives to become chief through savagery. When the conch begins to lose power, Jack gets a chance of becoming leader, and having the power to form his own group. In addition, the deadly sin of wrath also plays a role in Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein as the Monster's revenge on Victor Frankenstein leads to a killing spree. Victor's loss of power is portrayed through the monster's request of a female companion. The deadly sin of greed is present in both novels as Jack's greed for power becomes evident as he manipulates the minds of the others, in to following him and doing nothing but hunting.
Have you ever been on a trip where everything seems to be going wrong? How did that make you feel? Well in the story “The Most Dangerous Game” a hunter by the name of Mr. Rainsford feels the same way. In the movie, however his connections to his feelings and the outcome of the story may be a little misguided. The integrity of the story is affected by the many differences and similarities in the areas of initiating event, characterization, and plot between the story and the movie “The most dangerous game”.
Throughout life we are told to express our individuality and swim against the stream of the general population to put emphasis on the characteristics that make us, in short, individuals. Cherishing what makes an individual special and different is what establishes roots in creativity and self expression, however there is a forced false sense of comradery in today’s society that takes the form of involvement with the masses; peer pressure forces many people to fall into the mold of an average character. The Academy award winning film, “The Incredibles” displays the themes of expressing one’s true self and special qualities, and in contrast repression by society to fit a basic mold. These themes are elaborated on through the development of the main characters and expressed further through the supporting roles and their dialogue and endeavors.
Silent Hill is a popular survival horror game based on manipulating the players mind state and toying with their grip on reality. In 2006 the game was given a film adaptation, directed by Christophe Gans from a screenplay created by Roger Avary. Through out this paper I will examine the differences and similarities between the first Silent Hill game of the series and the 2006 film version. The protagonist of the original video game was a writer named Harry Mason. Harry had a wife who died due to previous events within the game, and they had adopted a daughter together who they named Cheryl.
One of the best usage of sound design as a tool of storytelling has to be in the first sequence of The Exorcist. As a horror movie, which as a genre builds itself on the vicarious experience it provides, uses more complex patterns of sound design templates to enhance the adventure of watching the movie. Throughout the first scene, Ken Nagle lays what the audience will be the experiencing through the duration of the movie with sound design; the duel between good and evil. The Exorcist’s first sequence, the audience can hear the digging sound of the workers, which resembles the heart pounding.
Kisses for My President was released in 1964, the same decade where women finally saw change, the decade that changed the course of how Americans would view women in the near future, and finally the decade that was full of promises for American women. The historical significance of Kisses for My President is why such a comical film was chosen for discussion. The motion picture, Kisses for My President, is about Leslie McCloud (Polly Bergen) whom becomes the first female president of the United States and her husband Thad McCloud (Fred MacMurray) who tries to adjust to the duties that were once reserved for a First Lady. As expected, President McCloud’s family begins to fall apart and the McCloud children begin to become troublesome, all while Leslie is handling the duties of a President. Leslie handles her career as President well throughout the film, but the film concludes with Madame President resigning due to an unexpected pregnancy.
Breathless, originally titled ‘À bout de souffle’, made in 1960 is a movie about a small-time thief who steals a car and murders a policeman. The story is about authorities chasing him while he reunites with an American journalist and attempts to persuade her to run away with him to Italy. Jean-Luc Godard, the director of the movie often quotes, ‘To make a film, all you need is a girl and a gun.’, which is probably the inspiration behind this movie. Breathless was one of the movies that kicked off the French New Wave. Like several of his French New Wave members, Jean-Luc Godard started as a film critic, and wrote for the magazine ‘Cahiers du Cinema’ in the 1950s, when he was in his early 20s.
Evil Dead is a science fiction film and it was written and directed by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. It was release in 1981. The movie opens with five youngsters going on a road trip following a map. They are heading to an old abandoned cabin. The tension starts to build when they cross the weak bridge leading to the cabin because they almost had the car fall under the bridge.
Vicky has recently moved from Keelung to Taipei, where she works doing PR in a nightclub. She has an overly jealous boyfriend, Hao Hao, who tracks her every movement, including her bank accounts, her telephone bills, even her smell. Her days pass by working, taking drugs and constantly fighting with him, at least when they do not have sex. However, she is tired of her situation and finds solace in Jack, a kind-hearted gangster, who also owns a bar. Gradually, she gets more and more comfortable with him while he is in serious trouble, due to his tendency to offer help to whoever needs it.
