The Most Dangerous Game is a story that discusses the inner capability to humans to perform acts of extreme violence. It observes two different, yet similar characters in General Zaroff and Rainsford. They both have very similar views on hunting, as they both consider the feelings of the prey to be meaningless. However, the stark difference between the two characters is the General Zaroff hunts humans and Rainsford hunts big game. Connell made sure to write this similarity into the story for the sake of foreshadowing.
The mood in another scene is happiness because Rainford actually had what it took to win the big hunt. Rainsford ended that night laying in general Zaroff’s bed. “A man, who had been hiding in the curtains of the bed, was standing there. " Rainsford!" screamed the general,” (14). In both scenes Rainford had to out smart General Zaroff to win the big hunt.
Such a terrifying experience as that depicted in the short story ¨The Most Dangerous Game¨, Richard Connell, could never be imagined by the usual person. Sanger Rainsford struggles ashore an island known as ship trap island after falling off of his yacht. On the island he meets the sole inhabitants of the island, General Zaroff, the protagonist, Zaroff soon tells Rainsford about his hunting of human beings and how he is going to hunt him. They go on their hunt and the hunt ends with Rainsford killing Zaroff. Connell achieves the major theme, hunt or be hunted, through the use of three literary elements: imagery, suspense, and foreshadowing.
Over 125,000 animals are hunted for sport each year, and for some people, this is not enough (Cappiello). General Zaroff in Richard Connell’s The Most Dangerous Game became so bored of hunting animals, he had to move onto the biggest and most dangerous game to hunt: humans. Richard Connell tells the exciting story of acclaimed hunter Sanger Rainsford and his struggles having to escape the human-hunter general Zaroff. Connell presents a thrilling story with intricate characters and detailed settings, all adding up to the enticing adventure known as The Most Dangerous Game.
We may not always choose to be put in tough situations, but they are inevitable and there is no option but to try to solve the conflict, and in this case, escape death. In the story, The Most Dangerous Game written by Richard Connell, a world renowned hunter falls off a yacht and is stranded on an island where he learns what it 's like to be hunted. In the story, High Noon by Carl Foreman, a sheriff must protect himself from a criminal that seeks revenge, while postponing his life with his new spouse. In both the book and the film, similar conflicts are presented, but the setting and characters of both greatly differ, creating two original, unique stories.
In Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game,” Sanger Rainsford is forced to test his survival skills while he is intensely hunted by an experienced war general named General Zaroff. In this story, Rainsford exhibits some very helpful characteristics like his resourcefulness, his strategic planning, and his ability to reason. As a result of Rainsford’s questioning the validity of General Zaroff’s hunting methods, he ended up playing in the game. Although I believe Rainsford is a very helpful, interesting, and dynamic character, at the end of the story, he must give up his own personal morals to win the game.
When placed in this situation, Rainsford has transformed from being the hunter to becoming the huntee, and is now in the position of all the animals he has carelessly killed before. Towards the end of the story, while Rainsford is being hunted by Zaroff and his pack of dogs, the narrator describes how Rainsford feels by saying that: “Rainsford now knew how an animal at bay feels” (22). The sensation of extreme fear and worry had finally gotten to him, and he can relate to how the animals he hunt may

At this time, Hollywood was always trying add dramatic twists to movies. To begin with, they added a girl to the movie. The girl also has a brother who is lured into playing Zaroff’s game and is eventually killed. Rainsford and this girl seem to be intimate. Also, Rainsford doesn’t fall off of his yacht.
- ‘Even so, I rather think they understand one thing--fear. The fear of pain and the fear of death. ’”(Connell 18) By reading the theme the reader can infer the position Rainsford is in will drastically change. Although, Rainsford is not overtaken by the jaguar
In “The most dangerous game” written by, Richard Connell, he uses many devices such as: characterization, plot structure and theme to contribute to the overall meaning of the story. Characterization is a big part of the overall meaning of the story which is that survival is of those who are smart, cunning, and can adapt to their environment. The protagonist Rainsford is at a constant battle with the antagonist General Zaroff. Throughout the entire short story they both have similar minds sets and then farther along the main character 's mind set develops into something more. The reader can almost sense a self centeredness, and that he believes that there are only two type of people in this world, “the hunters and the huntees”, and he believes that he is the hunter.
Furthermore, if you underestimate your opponent, you will not perform your personal best. This could result in something very dreadful happening. In the story, one of the main characters, Rainsford felt that it was acceptable to hunt jaguars. In his opinion, “The world is made up of two classes the hunters and the huntees (Connell 216)”. As a result of his wrong opinion, the tables turn in the story and Rainsford becomes the one being hunted.
Most people when they hear “The Most Dangerous Game” they think of bull riding or other dangerous games that don’t involve death. “The Most Dangerous Game” is a suspenseful cliff hanging story that follows the days of a castaway on the island of a crazed hunter. Rainsford is a big game hunter who falls off a boat near the island of General Zaroff, a big Cossack general who is looking for an alternative to hunting dangerous animals but with a twist. Throughout “The Dangerous Game” Rainsford and General Zaroff both show examples of IRony and exert arrogance.
In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” the main character Rainsford had gotten stranded on a dangerous island where Zaroff, a Russian Cossack General, hunted humans for sport. He feels that God put the weak on earth to give the strong pleasure, and up until it was his turn to be hunted, so did Rainsford. Earlier in the story Rainsford had stated, “The world is made up of two classes-- the hunters and the huntees.” And as harsh as it may sound, it is technically correct. The world is made of hunters and huntees, predator and prey.
The Scientific Method Contrary to popular belief, we don’t necessarily need to be scientists to make use of the Scientific Method. We utilize this method throughout everyday life. The Scientific Method is the principles and procedures for the systematic pursuit of knowledge involving the recognition and formulation of a problem, the collection of data through observation and experiment, and the formulation of testing a hypothesis [Merriam-Webster]. There are five key components to the Scientific Method: making an observation, forming a question, forming a hypothesis, organizing an experiment, and drawing a conclusion.
