“You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men”(1Corinthians 7). The novel The Kite Runner conveys a story of a young character, Amir. Amir underwent an obstacle filled upbring bring, in late 19th century Afghanistan. In this time he makes many poor decisions, creating atrocious effects. In The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini writes in such a fashion that evokes emotion, is relatable and has historical context, all of which are vital pieces in a classic novel.

The Kite Runner not only has an author whose life has travel the same places as the main character but also has events that take place in actual historic time. “I told you how we all celebrated in 1966 when the Taliban rolled in and put an end to the daily fighting”(213). This event is pretty major and is still creating problems for the US today. The use of this historical accuracy gives the book more meaning in that it gives a different perspective on the take over by the Taliban. Another relevant concept the text uses is the idea of the American dream. This is displayed through Baba and Amir in California. “American was different. America was a rivier, roaring along’ unmindful of the past. I could wade into this river, let my sins drown to the bottom, let the water carry me someplace far”(136). Baba and Amir were able to start over in America. Baba worked hard to get Amir in and through college. Amir went on to be a published writer with and wife that loved, that right there is the american dream. That reason alone should keep this book in schools, people need to know that america is the land filled with opportunities for the hardworking. Hosseini covers these topics well and even gives the book good reason that it will stay relevant. There are so many books being read in school that don’t tell young people what is going on in this world, people need to be educated and not have their time wasted. This text is perfect for that purpose, not only is it intriguing but good practical knowledge. Few things in life will be repeated for generations, make what is passed on
