The documentary of Kitty Hart-Moxon’s experiences, “Day in Auschwitz”, is all about what it was like in the Auschwitz camps she was in, how brutal times could be, and how she became a survivor. Auschwitz was designed as a factory of death and no one was intended to survive or let the world know about it’s inhumanity. In both Kitty’s story and the book “Night”, both were taken to Auschwitz at a young age and both were ripped from family. Kitty was only seventeen when she went to the camp and one of her first impressions when she got the was the ghost like figures with shaved heads, staggered, in tattered clothes with great big eyes, screaming in all languages being beaten. They did not follow jewish customs or keep a kosher home, and they only occasionally attended synagogue.
There are several different themes throughout Night and Kitty’s documentary but one theme I found obvious is violence. In Night, people were constantly getting beaten. The moment a person would step out of line or have a funny look on their face, they would be beaten. If one didn’t do what was asked right then, they would get beaten or even shot. On the death march, if a person fell behind or even stopped for a moment they would be shot right then and there. If one fell during the march they could already consider them self dead because they would be trampled from those behind them. One day, Eliezer watched a young boy be hanged. It may sound bad but one possible reason is for attention. Some may share their story so people would feel bad for them and all they’ve been through. Others may feel compelled to share their stories so people simply have the knowledge of what happened during the holocaust. Survivors may choose to share their story so history is not repeated. A person may share their story for them self. I know when I something big has happened to me, I like to write. A person may write to express them self and use writing as a way to lift weight of their shoulders and relieve stress and feelings. Sometimes people share theirs stories solely because they think people need to know. People need to know what happened. People need to understand what others are capable of when in power and how people aren’t going to care if they don’t pertain to their life no matter who they are.
