Kroger ranks as one of the world’s largest retailers, and the only major U.S. supermarket company to operate an economical three-tier distribution system. You can readily find an isle or two dedicate to specialty foods of different ethnicity. The Kroger’s retailer location that I shop most often at carries Latino foods, Asian foods, and Kosher foods too. Some of their other locations is known to carry Indian and other International foods. In the specialty foods items section at Kroger’s upon glanced, one might think it’s a good start as far as representation, but so few in selection and/or brand options are being offered. I had always felt that the Asian foods section at my normal location was extremely small, that you can barely recognize it. The Latino foods section is twice as large in comparison with the Asian foods. In both the Latino and Asian food sections, you can find that a few of these brands have been manufactured in the United States. Giving the fact the all imports from another country goes through a strict custom and commerce scrutiny, to assure that the products are safe, sanitary, and labeled according to U.S. requirements before final approval. Although, Kroger’s make a good attempt of providing specialty food items of Latino and Asian, but more than less items that can be used to prepare common American dishes. For example, a fast-quick preparation dish like Taco’s, I can find all the ingredients except the meat would be included in the Latino food section. But, if I wanted to prepare a dish like Stir-fry Chicken and Vegetables, I would have to go to both the meat and produce/vegetable sections to complete one of my favorite Asian food dish. For Asian foods, you can find plenty of Sauces, particularly Soy Sauce in abundance of various brands. Instead of offering five different brands of Soy Sauce, they could consider offering three brands and add two additional Asian food items to this section that had never been tested before on the market. In the Latino foods section two brands will instantly stand out among the rest. They are Goya Foods brand, an American producer of a brand of foods sold in the United States and Old El Paso brand of Tex-Mex-style foods from American food producer General Mills. I can’t help but to wonder if most Latino food buyers that shops at Kroger’s are looking for Latino foods from Mexico and South America, and not an American
