The Ku Klux Klan How did the KKK get to be the way it is today?The Ku Klux Klan, a small secret society that grew rapidly to reverse the federal government's decisions to give people of color their natural born rights in the south. But how did it happen? How did a group of six men who were a part of the civil war and fought for the Confederacy created a secret club, more than a hundred years later and this said club is still one of the most dangerous group of people in the south. On December 24, 1865, six men in Pulaski, Tennessee decided to create a secret society based solely on racism towards African Americans, instead of spending Christmas with their families like normal people.1 This small society grew rapidly, their sole purpose was to …show more content…

In 1882 the case of the KKK went all the way up to the supreme court and was ruled as unconstitutional, but the hate group began to disappear and the people began to feel safer. Until in the 19th century, they resurfaced after the flood of immigrants that entered the United States in the ‘10’s and ‘20’s, but they especially became more vocal during all the civil rights movements in the south during the 1950’s and 1960’s. They had the same beliefs to those in the 1800’s, white supremacy, racism, homophobia,nativism, and against every religion except Christianity. The society went through another decrease during the Great Depression, and after World War 2, they started to have the same mentality as the Nazi’s. Now there are over 8,000 known members and every time they experience a decline of members they always gain them all back. And one reason they are not stopped like they were back then is because they are protected by The American Civil Liberties Union who defend their acts of holding rallies and holding marches. 2Despite the thousands of counter protesters they will feel superior due to the fact that they are always protected by the police. They drown out the chants of counter protestors by yelling “White Power” showing how even when they are outnumbered they have more power.3 The ALT - right movement and neo nazis and the KKK have continued to grow all throughout these years by having no fear of being shut down, even when they begin to fade
