The KKK

On the day of December 24 in 1865 a group named the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was formed. The group was formed to fight against the equality of blacks. In the 1960’s the Klan fought the Civil Rights Movement in the south. The Klan is made up of war veterans that served in the different wars. The members of the KKK are violent and have a range of groups they hate. Although the KKK's main target was African Americans, they also targeted Gays,Jews,Immigrants, and Catholics. The Klan was founded and formed in Pulaski, Tennessee although the group was started in a small town it quickly moved through the south.

The number members started small the number today is now at 3000. The amount of members is spread thru 130 groups. During the Civil Rights at least 10% of the Black legislators became victims of the Klan's violence not all were killed there were 7 that were killed. The KKK didn’t only hurt the people the Klan would also attack Black Schools, Churches. Even when the blacks were in prison, they weren't safe. In 1871 500 Klan members attacked the Union County prison in South Carolina and hanged 8 Black men. The second generation went after the same groups as the first, but this group was fueled by immigration that stormed America in the beginning of the 20th century during this time American’s ere also scared of the communist revolution. The second generation of the Klan would throw parades and marches around the country. The Klan would also hold rallies and burn crosses. During the 1920’s the KKK had reached a peak of 4 million members nationwide. In the 1930’s during The Great Depression the KKK was temporarily broken
