History of the Ku Klux Klan
The Ku Klux Klan was defined as a white racist organization founded in 1866. Throughout history the organization used acts of terrorism. They mainly attacked African Americans because they were granted civil rights. Although they did attack other people that didn’t view them as “racially pure”. All through the United States the Ku Klux Klan had different requirements, but they all had one main goal; to hurt people who didn’t view life how they viewed it. Throughout the years people saw religious views, motives, and the dispelling of the Ku Klux Klan.

The Ku Klux Klan was led by a majority of white Protestants. According to history.com, they shared the old Puritan belief. This means that they believed the responsibility of self-government and the full privilege and civil rights gained only belonged to them. Since most white Southerners owned slaves they felt authority over the African Americans. Despite the American ideals of equality, the Ku Klux Klan emerged following the Revolutionary War against religious, ethnic, and cultural groups who they targeted as non-American. (Kelly, 1998). They feared that they were becoming violent and that their safety was in danger. The Ku Klux Klan refused the help of the U.S. government and police because they felt they were useless of keeping authority and defense (Martin, 2006).
