The KKK does not stand for the Kool Kids Klub. The topic of this paper is the Ku Klux Klan. The Ku Klux Klan is a big part of America's history. The paper will cover the purpose of the Ku Klux Klan, their background and history, and what they do today.

The purpose of the Ku Klux Klan was to fill people's minds with hatred and to scare people. The Ku Klux Klan dedicated itself to an underground campaign of violence against republican leaders and voters (History.com). The Ku Klux Klan wanted to restore white supremacy in the south (History.com). They wanted to scare black voters and government officials not to run for office and government (History.com). Their goal was to only have white people in office. The Ku Klux Klan generally targeted African Americans (History.com). Their main target seemed like is was just African Americans but they targeted other people as well. They targeted Jewish people, Immigrants, and gay or lesbian people (History.com). The Ku Klux Klan is not just one organization, it started with a first branch and slowly progressed. The Ku Klux Klan has many different branches in many different places. A lot of people associate the Ku Klux Klan with southern states, which is pretty accurate. The first branch of the Ku Klux Klan was formed in Tennessee (History.com). The founder of the first branch was named Nathan Bedford Forrest (History.com). Nathan Bedford Forrest was an American General during the Civil War (History.com).
