The Ku Klux Klan first emerged in Pulaski, Tennessee following the Civil War. As we know today, the mere mention of the Klan triggers fear as the KKK is known for its various tactics of violence that came in the form if lynchings, murders, and mutilations. Following their emergence, the KKK were quickly symbolized and portrayed as the protectors of the South, following the defeat of the Southern states in the Civil War and the beginning of the period of Reconstruction by the federal government (Gurr, 1989, p. 132). During the 1920s, the KKK achieved its greatest political success and growth outside of the South. During this period, the membership of the Klan heavily expanded to the states of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Oregon, to which the KKK obtained two to two and one-half million members at its apex.
The Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1865 by six veterans of the Confederate Army. Over a period of three hundred years of slavery in America White slave owners built a sophisticated structure to sustain their brutally corrupt and immoral system. They founded “The Klan” to protect the interests of the white popularity. Evolving from the Slave Patrol to the Ku Klux Klan. The first generation was known for its brutal and immoral acts against immigrants and former slaves.
Through white supremacy, the Klu Klux Klan was born. During the 1920s, cultural conflict and modernization helped resuscitate the Ku Klux Klan. Whereas the original KKK was a violent, racist organization born in the post-Civil War South, the modern Klan was driven by somewhat different concerns. Many white, lower-middle-class, Protestant Americans in the North and Midwest were fearful that immigrants were changing traditional American
The KKK On the day of December 24 in 1865 a group named the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was formed. The group was formed to fight against the equality of blacks. In the 1960’s the Klan fought the Civil Rights Movement in the south. The Klan is made up of war veterans that served in the different wars. The members of the KKK are violent and have a range of groups they hate.
The KKK got its name from the Greek word Kuklos which means circle (Klu Klux Klan in the Reconstruction Era). The KKK was formed after the federal government withdrew from the south and the Jim crow Laws were put into place (Southern Poverty Law Center). The KKK had a primary goal was to defeat the Republican Party and keep blacks from gaining rights a freedom. The Northerners were disgusted by the KKK’s violence. Therefore, they gave their support towards the 15th amendment which gave all black men the right to vote and the First Reconstruction Act of 1867 (American Experience).
The KKK was founded in 1886 by old Confederate soldiers who did not believe the Reconstruction act of the Civil War. The clan demised slightly, then resurfaced in 1915. Prior to the 1920’s, the clan only focused on Africa-Americans. But during the twenties they not only focused on the hatred of African-Americans, but they also began to focus on the hatred of Catholics, Jews, and immigrants. (6)
Ku Klux Klan or KKK was a movement that used forms of terrorism to propagate the white supremacy. Even though the first klan was fortunately not successful and ended in 1871, the second klan raised again during the world was 1, in 1915. Ku Klux Klan played a big role during the immigration crises in the roaring 20’s and during World War 1, when the lives of African-Americans evolved rapidly. One of the main reason why the popularity of the KKK raised during the Roaring 20’s was the Great Migration. That raised a wave of nationalism, isolationism and americanism.
They had arisen after being dead for nearly 50 years, had many new targets they were after including foreigners, jews, and catholics, and asserted themselves as a dominant force to not be reckoned with in our nation’s state governments. The KKK had placed so many beings in power and killed so many their presence of hate was felt all throughout the nation. The Klan has died before then and since then but the KKK of the 1920s was possibly their most dominant of all time. The Klan of the 20s was like no other Klan they did things no one had ever done before, killing thousands and controlling the government like no one group ever could their past presence in the American society will be remembered for all

The Evolution of the KKK Hate has been going on since the beginning of time, But the first declared hate group was the Klu Klux Klan, it has evolved over the years. The Klu Klux Klan is a white supremacist group founded in 1866. The mission of the Klan is to “restore America to a white christian-nation” (KKK). The KKK has evolved from a popular association to a small clan over the years. During the “1920s, Klan membership exceeded 4 million people nationwide” (History).
The Ku Klux Klan, made up of former Confederate officers who idealized an antebellum Southern heritage, became folk heroes by terrorizing outsiders who challenged race relations by assisting blacks. Catholics, foreigners, former slaves, and their sympathizers were targeted for wanting to push reforms that went against the Southern way of life. As one historian points out, the KKK gained sympathy because they were seen as defenders and policemen of the people who protected the prevailing values of society, including Protestantism, whiteness, and genteel southern culture (Kinshasa 15). The KKK and its sister organizations were even sponsored by state governments, such as Kentucky and Mississippi, as a police force to maintain the status quo (Parsons 160). The presence of the Klan and other forms of white resistance offered white residents a form of security during this uncertain time period.
The Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1866 and expanded to almost every southern state by 1870. The Klan was founded as a social club by a group in Pulaski, Tennessee that mainly consisted of confederate veterans. The first two words of its name are based off the Greek word ‘’Kyklos’’ meaning circle. The Ku Klux Klan during the 1920s was primarily based in the southern United States but had a presence throughout the country, it was known for the use of violence, intimidation, and terrorism to support and maintain white supremacy, and its goal was to prevent progress for African Americans, immigrants, and other minority groups, basically all non-withes. The Klan's resurgence in the 1920s was a reaction to two significant events of the era: the Great Migration and the rise of nativism. The Great Migration was a large movement of African Americans coming from the south United States to the north cities in search of better opportunities and equality, the large Migration of African Americans into predominant white cities created social tensions
