Who is Kurt Cobain? That’s a question that many people ask because he’s before most people’s time. He was the lead singer of the famous band Nirvana. He looked like a stereotypical surfer, the kind that spent all his time doing something he loved. But that was a mask. He was actually very depressed. A lifelong depression that was undiagnosed, and eventually cost him his life. In just a few years, he turned from barely known, to famous, to world famous, to top of the charts famous, to dead. His story isn’t like a normal story, it isn’t a sob story, or a romance, or a tragedy, or a comedy. It’s a story of hardships, overcoming some, while slowly they overcome him. Kurt Cobain lived most of his life with pain. First, he had his stomach issues. The text says, “Malnutrition was the first symptom of a stomach disorder that would plague him later in life,” (Cross 23). He had horrible stomach problems and was in constant pain. But one of the most prominent would be his depression. He was only 27, and already tired emotionally and physically. Cobain writes in a letter, “I don’t have the passion anymore and so remember, it’s better to burn out than to fade away.” (Cross 352). He was so depressed and suicidal. It was hard for him to live. He constantly thought about his suicide. Cobain writes in his journal, “I’m so tired of crying and dreaming, I’m soo soo alone. Isn’t there anyone out there? Please help me. HELP ME!” (Cross 295). He wanted someone to help him with his pain. He thought of being free from all the pain that life brings. Cross writes, “This had always been the thing he kept in the back of his mind, like a precious salve, as the only cure for a pain that would not go away.
