Lars and Anna THorwald were reported to have had a dysfunctional marriage. Due to the stress of caring for her wilse she was debilitated, Lars had found intresti in another woman. Both lars and his later wife were in a way, somewhat responsible for taking part in this murder. Reasons unknown for the actual killing but it is assumed that Lars found Anna Bothersome, Displeasing or stressful to care for. Other potential reasons include being pressured by his later wife and/or having a physical disorder.

Jeffery states: within the prior months, Anna THorwald was debilitated. This had affected Lars and Anna’s relationship which resulted in a continual build of distrust. At the occurence of the scream and the dubious actions of lars thorwald that night and the following days, suspicion arose within Jeffery, Stella and Lisa. over the course of the following days and night, they had observed Thorwald with the assistance of Thomas Doyle analysing the mail sent and received. It was reported that he had received mail from supposed ‘anna thorwald’ from merritsville, made long distance calls, brought detergent, went through anna’s purse and jewelry and also burried something in the garden (later found to be part of anna thorwalds severed
