Suicide Is on the rise due to bullying and depression
What is suicide? Suicide is the act of killing oneself intentionally. Consequently, suicide has become the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. A study conducted by the Urban Institute showed 17% of students reported they were victims of cyberbullying. Even though suicide is a major public health problem it affects many families and loved ones. Many youths that are battling with depression assume that their suffering is the reason for their unhappiness. As a result, death is valued more than life. Suicide takes the lives of approximately 40,000 people each year costing the United States about 40 billion dollars annually.

As a result, death is valued more than life. Imagine being in an empty room with no one to listen to your problems or vent to. Many people that suffer with depression feel as though they are not wanted or no one understands what they are going through. For so long suicide has been swept under the rug as a “Hush-hush” topic, however I see that it is surfacing its way back forcing us now to discuss the matters at hand. Depression is not something that goes away within an hour, or next day; it is a prolonged mental illness. Research shows that most people to commit suicide had some type of mental disorder. Each day that we are silent, a life is being taken away by their own hands. As

We forget that life can become overwhelming and just like our pets all humans want to be loved. I hope that suicide becomes a more talked about topic in the near future because so many lives are taken, and families are being affected.
