Fahrenheit 451 In the book Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, the author predicts the future of today’s society. He predicted today’s current technology and societal issues, which would have been quite far-fetched for the book’s timeframe. Some future technology from the book that is similar to today is the small electronic earpieces that fit into peoples’ ears that allow them to communicate with other people. Nowadays, this device exists and is referred to as Bluetooth. In addition, the book also mentioned large flat screen televisions that were the size of a wall. Bluetooth is earpieces are small technological devices similar to a seashell radio; within the book, a seashell radio is the people’s way of cummincating. After Faber gave Montag the seashell device, “Montag placed the green bullet in his ear. The old man inserted a similar object in his own ear and moved his lips” (Bradbury 87). Back when Fahrenheit 451 was published in 1953, people in that society did not know about Bluetooth or seashell radios; they did not have cell phones back in that time period. Despite the ancient technology in 1953, Ray Bradbury predicted these technologies of the future when he wrote about these radio earpieces. In the book, Montag and Faber used these to communicate with one another in order for Faber to be able to talk to Montag. To explain, Montag wants Faber’s help to implant books into the firemen’s houses. This is similar to Bluetooth because one person is able to talk to another person through an earpiece device. There are so many people trying to commit suicide claims one of the handymen: “We get these cases nine or ten a night. Got so many, starting a few years ago, we had the special machines build” (Bradbury 13). In Montag’s society, having people try to commit suicide is an everyday normal occurrence. Even today, people try to or do commit suicide on a daily basis. In other words, it has almost become so “normal” that people do not take it seriously and joke about it. Though in reality it is quite serious, people commit suicide because they do not achieve the education they need to attain knowledge and wisdom; without education, society does not know the level of happiness they can
