“La bella citta da Sorrento,” my father called out as we arrived on the shores of Sorrento, Italy. It was the day before my fifteenth birthday, and my mother promised that over the summer we would take our boat out and visit the beautiful city I wish to one day call home. The water on the beaches are such a clear blue. The sand as white as the feathers of a dove. Then when night falls upon the background of the horizon, the stars twinkle and the moon sits upon the city’s hilltops. This was the perfect place to celebrate my fifteenth birthday. As we were sitting on the highest level of the boat house, my father was docking the boat. After about twenty minutes of walking along the beach, I felt my stomach grumble and even my sister had heard the peculiar noise that had come from it. On the way to la pizzeria, we had passed a young girl. Her hair was dirty blonde, and her eyes were crystal blue. Her shirt was covered in dirt and had rips and tears all over it. Her blue jeans that you could tell were once blue, were now a sort of grey color. She wasn’t wearing shoes, and you could tell she was hungry. Not only did her eyes water for food, but she held her stomach and shouted out to people “Io sono fame, Io sono fame”( I am hungry, I am hungry). It was strange, however, in the can she was holding she had a good amount of euros to buy herself even just a sandwich from the deli which she was sitting in front of. We continued walking and arrived at la pizzeria. Still holding my silver flip flops in hand, my sister and I sat at a table and ordered.
