In Vickey Delany’s novel, Blue Water Hues, the character named Ashley Grant decided to leave her life in Canada, starting a new one in the Caribbean. Tragic murders have occurred within this island ever since she arrived, causing a deep sense of trauma and depression of which is bottled up and hidden away from her family and friends. The author illustrates the different emotions she experiences in which Ashley Grant bottles up and hides from her friends and family. With that being said, the story develops a sense of the inevitability of the deaths of each and one of her loved ones, which causes Ashley Grant to undergo trauma and apprehension of the tragic future. By losing the pictures, Ashley Grant's discovery becomes farther and farther from the truth behind the murder. With the only piece of evidence that Ashley Grant has found had been missing causing the outburst of mixed emotions from anger and sadness of the thought of the killer getting away for what he's done. With that being said, Ashley Grant chooses to bottle these feelings up and tries to push through with the investigation. “She’s been through a lot. Look out for her.” This quote shows that her mom is not only caring but she knows the limit in which Ashley can handle her emotions. Although help was available, she decided to keep her feelings to herself which resulted in a mental breakdown that mentally left a permanent scar throughout her whole life. This reminds of an old friend of mine that had experienced their parents passing away, she also had available help to talk about but decided to bottle those feelings up just as Ashley did. This also resulted in the mental breakdown for my friend which also changed her life in several different ways. This really conveys the importance of reaching out to others about your issues rather than bottling them up to eventually release all at
