The issue concerning the concept of certainty hindering the advancement of mankind is pressing for a positive change. Just as darkness can be liberated through light, the blindness of certainty can be relieved through the glasses of doubt. However, it is argued that "powerful beliefs" and confidence in ones aspirations are important in accomplishing deeds others may feel are near "impossible." This certainty people may feel in themselves can often be the deciding factor of how crucial situations will play out, often times what mindset one walks into a situation dictates the outcome. If many people have the intellect to accomplish something but lack the self-confidence required to attain it, the results will reflect it. So, to an extent, certainty in oneself if required to succeed in select situations. While others considered it impossible for a new country to thrive on principles not yet tested, the founding fathers had absolute confidence in this new nation, the United States. The success of the nation paved the way for many other countries to begin to base their government on their constitution, a document they put so much faith into, even though a nation without a king and founded on the basis opposing a strong central had never been attempted before. Had it not been for the founding fathers' conviction of this plan for the nation, the United States may not be what we glorify and respect today. Although there are situations where certainty can be beneficial, often times it can act as more of a handicap rather than an advantage.
