But again, it was clear that the doctors or aids did not have the enough knowledge or tools to treat the wound correctly. Soldiers were being bandaged without any anesthetic to calm the pain. Nothing was being used to disinfect the wound or the tools they were using. It was possible that they used tweezers to remove a patient's bullet and then it’d be used again on some other patient to remove their bullet with the previous patient’s blood, pus, and germs. They had to be tough, fight the pain, and suck it up because it wasn’t time to be feeling sick or any pain during the
Janaiya Quinerly is the next big thing. Only in the 8th grade but watching her on the court you would think she was entering her last season of high school. The offers are still coming and don't seem to stop anytime soon. Her father John Quinerly gladly gave us some insight on the young star. “Janaiya is so humble, being so young she doesn't understand everything that's going on fully but she is not letting it go to her head.
He goes on to produce this story of the boy’s life had he not killed him. He would have gone to University for mathematics, and he would avoid politics. He probably met a girl before the war and they exchanged gold rings, and she liked that he was thin and frail. The author uses repetition in this short story by repeating the details of the wounds. He mentions “his jaw in his throat” and the “star shaped hole in his eye” several times.
The war left him injured, shot in the shoulder and now unable to carry a gun. His hopes crushed, his mind crumbling, he was struggling to even stay sane in a passenger train. The jostling of the train car could not distract his mind from these awful thoughts. The only thing he had
Change. What causes it? People change when they realize who they are and who they want to be. They change because of the people around them, how they react to a situation at hand, and to become who they want to be. People change based on the people around them, they may adapt and become them or they may realize that’s not them and become the opposite.

He was an artillery specialist, so it is a given that was often involved in a line of fire. He never talked much about it, unless he was with his Army brothers, and even then, the graphic details were never divulged. For those who were close to him, he didn’t have to say that what he did and saw in the Middle East had affected him greatly, it was obvious in his day to day life. On the outside he wore this mask, a façade if you will, of a strong Army man, one who could pick you up and throw you over his shoulder with ease, and who you would never see shed a tear.
He went crazy and did things he normally wouldn’t do. He took out all his anger and frustration on a baby animal. This demonstrates how he was unable to cope, how he lost himself and his mind to the death of war. The platoon didn’t feel bad or intervene for the water buffalo either. This shows how the end of the war changed all of them.
Cathy Ames has been criticized because she is completely evil. It has expressed throughout the novel that Cathy is inhuman. She has no emotion, no feelings, and no good in her. Many state that she is a symbol for Satan or a witch, who is pawn of Satan. People go so far in declaring that she is one of these evil spirits because even from birth she was filled with extreme evil and darkness, lacking characteristic that make up a human.
The other way soldiers were affected was through psychological trauma which can be seen on page 130 when O’Brian writes, “"He was slim, dead, almost dainty young man of about twenty. He lay with one leg bent beneath him, his jaw in his throat, his face neither expressive nor inexpressive. One eye was shot. The other was a star-shaped hole. "(130)
There were many moments throughout the book where he found it difficult to interact with people back at home, or at times he felt isolated. Also, at times he was not thinking as rationally as he would have before the war. These are all effects

Through-out multiple acclaimed novels in history, the code hero is most surely a male character. Although Ernest Hemingway creates a unique twist to that statement with his character Lady Brett Ashley in The Sun Also Rises. Brett is one of the main characters who is a free-spirited women with short hair that goes along perfectly with her manly traits. Hemingway uses her aggressive and unapologetically behaviors to build a beautiful women code hero. It is often thought in literature that the role of a code hero is empowering to a character, yet in the case of The Sun Also Rises, it seems to inhibit Brett’s ability to truly be happy.
