Guilt is an everyday occurrence and it can happen in many different ways as in court rooms, with your parents, spouse, or friends. Guilt is an emotion that can cause several problems mentally and physically. Lady Macbeth puts an idea of killing someone in her husband, Macbeth’s, head and continues her life with knowing she is the cause of a terrible death. In Shakespeare’s play, The Tragedy of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is as guilty as her husband for all the deaths and chaos that has occurred. Many people fall for others “guilt trip” and that is how problems can be started. Lady Macbeth guilts her husband, Macbeth, by challenging his man hood. In marriages if a woman tells the man he is a coward or he will not do something, he will step up just to prove her wrong. A person will come up with excuses to cover their weird behavior, and that is what Lady Macbeth did for her husband. She would make sure no one would think something strange was going on by their guilty actions. Lady Macbeth would cover up the lies by saying he’s just sick and that is why his actions were unusual. Most people can tell when someone they are close to is not acting themselves, and questions are usually asked. When they are at dinner Lady Macbeth says, “Think of this, good peers, but as a thing of custom: ‘tis no other;” (Shakespeare, Macbeth 3.6.113-4) to help Macbeth be at ease with the guilt building up. Since the guilt built up Macbeth started losing his mind more and more. Killing was a way to feel power to Macbeth since his wife used that against him when challenging his man hood. Lady Macbeth knew the other plans but never stopped them. Stopping a problem before it happens can make someone feel good about themselves, but Lady Macbeth did not stop it.
