A woman wants sovereignty over a man Women want sovereignty over men. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth has a very complex relationship. Lady Macbeth tries to take over Macbeth’s mind. Lady Macbeth attacks Macbeth mentally and emotionally. The relationship is unstable because of their lack of trust and Macbeth’s power over Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth says to Macbeth “Thou wouldst be great/ Art not without ambition.” Lady Macbeth basically was saying that if Macbeth doesn’t take control she will. Wuthering Heights also show a lot of unbalanceness in the relationships. It also shows some examples of women wanting sovereignty over men.

In the text it quotes that “Lady Macbeth has a desire for power into desire for love and freedom outside of her marriage and the confines of her father -in-law’s household, and she is willing to kill for it” (Thomas 83). She feels that taking the life of a man at that will give her the right confidence to take over in the relationship. She was eager to get the job done pressuring Macbeth throughout Act I and II. she has a real desire for power. She has also said “ that which hath made them drunk hath made me bold, what hath quenched them hath given me fire” (Mac. 2.2. 1-2).This means that she has got sovereignty over the guards through alcohol. In the play, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth relationship was very complex. Macbeth struggles with putting up with Lady Macbeth, making it seem like the woman in the relationship is superior to the man. In the text, it talked about how Lady Macbeth says “unsex me here” (Thomas 84) to have the feminized traits of pity and sympathy and bodily signs of motherhood removed to give her the power of a man to take over in the relationship. This shows that men are superior to women when it comes to the relationship. More evidence of this is when Lady Macbeth said: “ Had he not resembled my father as he slept, I would have done it” (Mac. 2.2. 12-13).
