Bruce Pascoe in the excerpt titled, ‘Lake Corangamite’ from his book ‘Convincing Ground’, narrates his journey to Lake Corangamite, whilst taking particular note of the way Australians recognize the Indigenous people but do not fully respond respectfully to their nation’s history. The excerpt begins with Pascoe noting how Aboriginal names and terms have been widely used, yet there is still a ‘bleakness’ (Pascoe 74) present. He then goes on to recount his initially unsuccessful luck with gaining information about a particular house with distinctly holed walls. After several attempts, Pascoe is finally able to be let in to photograph the house and is told briefly that ‘the settlers had a lot of fights with the Aborigines’ (Pascoe 75).
One more drop of the puck I thought. All of the work, for the Grand Rapids Griffins at least. Winning the first series, a best-of-five, against the Houston Aeros in a winner take all game five, winning the Conference Quarter-finals, best-of-seven, against the Toronto Marlies in six games, defeating the Oklahoma City Barons in the Conference Finals, and finally one drop of the puck away from the American Hockey League’s most prized possession, the Calder Cup. The game had been a back and forth game with the Crunch scoring first.

Lieutenant Thomas Macdonough’s victory at the Battle of Lake Champlain on 11 September 1814 was the decisive battle that secured an American victory in the War of 1812 by causing the British to withdraw from the north east and Chesapeake Bay. Without Macdonough’s genius strategy, the British would have secured Lake Champlain, taken Fort McHenry at Plattsburgh, and kept control in the Chesapeake Bay, which in turn would have resulted in a British victory of the war. After two years into the war, the British maintained the upper hand. Despite major naval victories by Chauncey and Perry at Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, the British still held a blockade across the east coast of the United States.
