Throughout my life I’ve had an admiration for the expression of human creativity, through outlets like music, literature, dance, and painting, Personally, I have and continue to express myself through music and dance, two passions of mine that have shaped my personality and identity. However, recently I’ve become increasingly interested in the painting aspect of art. Not my own art but for the appreciation of others, both ancient and modern. So when this assignment came to my attention, I approached it with honest interest and curiosity. The first step was to choose a museum. They have been mistreated, misrepresented, and shadowed for many years by men. Not until recently have women been getting the rights they’ve deserved for years. So from a feminist analysis, the white splotch in the middle might be the women of today finally breaking through their dreary history of suffrage. The whitish pink splotch might represent the women who have fought in the bloody battle of women 's rights so women today could live equally with men. Contextually, it’s obvious what era influenced its creation, WWII. Titled Monkey Business by Ruben Ubiera it was exactly 16’ X 24’, quite the massive project. The piece features a large gorilla spanning almost the entire mural. The gorilla looks fierce in nature and features a defined outline. What’s special about this painting is it draws on the urban roots of Miami as it features graffiti style art inside of the gorilla. The pattern on the inside includes dominoes, fruit, sail boats, tattoos, and other graffiti resembling art.It is in such a way that it flows well on the eye and one part of the pattern doesn’t distract from the other. On the skin of the gorilla features south Florida palm trees grazing the outline. The color of painting is a beautiful strong shade of blue that is dark on the outline but fades to a lighter shade towards the middle.This tone of the painting enables the artist to create the designs on the inside, bringing this life sized painting to life. A paint roller, swan, and little creature on the painting are also a strong yellow color. These little guys are nothing in comparison to the size of the gorilla and doesn’t distract from him but just accompanies him. This painting features a Unity/harmony design as the elements inside the gorilla are in balance. The figures have rhythm and also alternate to keep it fruitful and vibrant to the viewer. There is also a hierarchy to the mural as the painting
