Roald Dahl succeeds in creating creepy ideas and characters. in his works The Landlady and Lamb to the Slaughter. In The Landlady, the titular landlady heavily implies that she has stuffed her two previous guests, Christopher Mulholland and Gregory Temple, by saying that “[Mulholland is] still here. Mr. Temple is also here. They’re on the third floor, both of them together.” This seems to foreshadow that they are either prevented from leaving or are dead. In Lamb to the Slaughter, Mrs. Maloney seems to be mentally ill, because she does not seem to care that she just murdered her husband. Her reaction is, in her words, “All right, so I’ve killed him.” Being so unmoved after having murdered someone is quite disturbing. Also in Lamb to the Slaughter,
