The quote that I chose is “When you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you” by Lao-tzu. Personally, this means that the more a person does not look for approval from other people the person becomes much happier. Without a person comparing themselves to other people such as celebrities of whom they see on TV or even their role models, they will gain more respect from their peers. Personally, this is true since most people now days want to look like their role models. This means they go for plastic surgery or even start up bad habits such as smoking just to fit in with the ground or even be liked. With this kind of behavior, it makes us lower our self-values and morals. With this kind of behavior, they receive the attention of which they wanted, nevertheless they are receiving the wrong type of attention. This means people do not respect the person since they consider them a disposal product. This quote did help me understand the society in that everyone wants next best thing, so they start to compete with each other in order for them not to be considered losers. Especially, there is a lot of competition happening around us for example in our education system, work place and even in our daily routines. With this kind of pressure happening it makes people do whatever it takes to win even though that means sabotaging each other for example not helping the other person when they ask a question which causes us to loose self-respect for each
