Women wearing colorful skirts and flowery hats also march in the parade to represent women who traveled with the army. This is followed by a reenactment of the battle that took place. There is smoke, shouting, and mock sword battles concluding with a Mexican victory. There are also traditional dances, games, traditional foods, mariachi music, and colorful decorations” (Borade, 2012, para. 3). There is a variety of foods during this celebration such as, “lamb barbacoa that has been smoked underground in banana leaves or carnitas topped with queso fresco, pickled onions and homemade salsa verde wrapped in a warm homemade corn tortilla that has been ever so lightly heated on a comal” (Esposito, 2013, para. 4).

Some of Abuelo’s specialty entrée dishes include the tilapia Veracruz sautéed with shrimp, scallops and roasted poblanos, the grilled and bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin medallion los mejores de la casa accompanied by bacon-wrapped shrimp stuffed with cheese and jalapenos and the chicken enchiladas with fire-roasted queso sauce, all of which are perfectly seasoned and great alongside the frozen sangria swirl
They have a wide variety of appetizers and main courses. My favorite appetizer has to be their black pepper chicken wings. It is a mouth watering combination of sweet and salty and has the perfect amount of spiciness for a variety of different palettes. For the main courses, I especially love the ribs with a side of sauted green beans. When you look at the dish, you immediately want to devour the smoldering red, tender ribs, as well as the juicy seasoned beans.

Many people wish for jobs that do not take over their entire life. They dream of being able to leave the struggles they face in the workplace and come home to a complete sense of freedom. However, many people find that this is an unattainable goal. In “The Lady in the Pink Mustang” by Louise Erdrich, “The Secretary Chant” by Marge Piercy, and “The Restaurant Business” by James Tate, there are characters who have lost their identity because of their jobs. Louise Erdrich's poem, “The Lady in the Pink Mustang,” conveys the loss of self worth and identity felt by a prostitute.
If Mexican culture were a quilt, then the many varied fabric patches that comprise its surface would be meals, the batting would be equal parts family and religion, and the thread used to sew the quilt together would be tradition. The people of Mexico consider mealtimes to be of utmost importance in their culture; however, much like an attractive quilt that lacks proper insulation—pretty, but useless—mealtimes lose much of their meaning without the substance that family and religion provide. Mealtimes in Mexico are a family affair, and immediate families in Mexico are typically multigenerational and tend to be quite large. Unlike most Americans, Mexican meals are almost exclusively had in the home—rather than in restaurants—where they are prepared,
The perfect enchilada has to have the best flavored ingredients. The chef starts out with one hundred percent real chicken breast, cheese of the chefs choosing, sauces, onions, and bell peppers; and any other ingredient that the chef may use for his or her type of enchilada. Enchiladas are a world classic in many areas. To start off making the greatest bunch of enchiladas, the cook must first gather the ingredients, prepare the food, and serve when ready.
My mother and sisters cook the enchiladas. They do the majority of the work such as dishes. This process reinforces traditional family roles. This leaves more time for the men to relax. We are quite lucky.
